Wednesday 23rd May
Bishop Mark Davies ( Diocese of Shrewsbury ) visited St John’s Catholic Primary School to bless the new altar and lectern bought by the Parish of St John’s, Bridgnorth for the school to help enhance the Catholic Life of the school. Bishop Mark met with Mrs Buzzing ( Head Teacher) and then took part in a whole school assembly where he talked to the children and used Holy Water to bless the Altar & Lectern. It is often tradition in the Catholic Church for Religious objects to be blessed.
Bishop Mark and the Faith Council ( made up of representatives from Y2-Y6) then went to the School Foyer to bless the statue of St John and Mary. Earlier this week children took part in a May Procession; a Y6 Girl crowned Our Lady with a crown of flowers as part of the May devotions. Children are then invited to lay flowers around the statue as a sign of devotion. The children have enjoyed taking part in the recent Catholic Traditions and meeting Bishop Mark.
